Hi David and Pastor Alex. The incident happened in my Barangay - Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro, Philipines on August 31 on or about 9 pm during the reported earthquake. The fatality was idenitified as Elenita Clavano Ubalde, female, 44 yrs old. She was crushed by a collapsed wall of her house while trying to save her grandson Adrian Rosales, 4 years old. Adrian is now at the Capitol University Medical Center suffering from contusions in the head. It was reported to me that his condition is not getting any better and a neurosurgeon is needed. The area of the landslide is right beside an abandoned quarry site. The case is under investigation by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). The said area is also occupied by some thirty-five (35) families all informal settlers. The OCD and the city government are finding ways on how to mitigate the situation. It was suggested that the remaining protruding land be blasted so as to prevent recurrenceof landslide and the families that shall be affected be moved to a permanent relocation site. FYI.

Hello David, Cagayan de Oro was 3 in the Richter Scale last night. There was a heavy downpour before the earthquake so in one of the hills there was a landslide during the earthquake. A house was damaged with the landslide so an elderly woman died on the spot and her grandson is in critical condition at the hospital. This incident is the only known fatality of the earthquake in the Philippines.
